UCAS 15 October Deadline: What to Do in the Final Week.
| The UCAS deadline for Oxford, Cambridge and most medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses is 6pm UK time on 15 October 2026. Most other undergraduate courses have an equal consideration deadline of 6pm UK time on 13 January 2027. Check each university’s page for extra forms or tests. |
If one of your five UCAS choices is Oxford, Cambridge, or most medicine, dentistry or veterinary courses, your application has to reach UCAS by 6pm UK time on Thursday 15 October 2026. That is this week.
This post is a checklist, not a pep talk. It covers who the deadline applies to, what the time means where you live, what must be finished, which tests and forms sit around it, and what to do if you are late.
Which courses have the 15 October deadline
UCAS calls 15 October the equal consideration date for:
- every course at the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge
- most courses in medicine, dentistry, and veterinary medicine or veterinary science
“Most” matters. A few courses in those subjects follow the later deadline, so open the course page on UCAS and check the date shown there.
For almost everything else, the equal consideration deadline is 6pm UK time on 13 January 2027. If none of your five choices is in the groups above, you have more time.
You send one application with up to five choices. If any one of them has the October deadline, send the whole application by then.
What 6pm UK time means where you live
On 15 October the UK is on British Summer Time, one hour ahead of UTC. UK clocks do not change until 25 October. Here is when the deadline falls in some places our readers live:
| City | Local time when it is 6pm in the UK on Thursday 15 October |
| London | 6:00 pm, Thursday 15 October |
| Johannesburg | 7:00 pm, Thursday 15 October |
| Riyadh, Doha, Kuwait City | 8:00 pm, Thursday 15 October |
| Dubai, Muscat | 9:00 pm, Thursday 15 October |
| Mumbai, Delhi | 10:30 pm, Thursday 15 October |
| Singapore, Kuala Lumpur | 1:00 am, Friday 16 October |
| Sydney | 4:00 am, Friday 16 October |
| Toronto, New York | 1:00 pm, Thursday 15 October |
Check your own city with a time-zone converter. And do not plan to send in the last hour. Websites get busy, and your school may need to act before you can.
What has to be finished before you can send
UCAS will not let you send an application without a reference from your school or another referee, and you have to arrange payment before it goes. Work through this list:
- Reference. Your school or college writes this and sends your application. Tell them you have the October deadline. Many schools set their own earlier date, so ask what theirs is. If you are applying on your own, ask your referee to finish well before 15 October.
- Personal statement. Finished, and read by at least one other person.
- Education and grades. Your results so far and your predicted grades entered correctly, whether you study IB, A-Levels, CBSE, AP or something else.
- Choices. Up to five. You can apply to Oxford or Cambridge in one cycle, not both. UCAS also limits how many medicine, dentistry or veterinary courses you can list, so check the current rule before you add choices.
- Payment. Arranged before you send.
- Login. Log in today and make sure you can get in, including any code sent to your phone.
Tests and extra forms near the deadline
UCAS is only one part. Many applicants also have a test or a second form around 15 October. Booking for most of the tests below has already closed, so use this table as a check, not a to-do list. If you missed a booking, email the university’s admissions office today.
| Item | Date | Who it applies to |
| UCAT | Sat between mid-July and late September. Registration closed on 16 September. | Medicine and dentistry applicants. Oxford Medicine requires it. |
| ESAT | Test days 12–16 October 2026. Booking closed on 28 September. | Courses that use it. Oxford and Cambridge applicants must use this October window. The January window is for applicants with the January deadline. |
| TMUA | Test days 12–16 October 2026. Booking closed on 28 September. | Oxford maths and computer science, and Cambridge courses that use it. |
| TARA | Test days 12–16 October 2026. Booking closed on 28 September. | Oxford courses that use it, such as PPE. Check your course page. |
| LNAT | Must be sat on or before 15 October. Booking for Oxford and Cambridge applicants closed on 15 September. | Law applicants. |
| My Cambridge Application | Due 6pm UK time on 22 October 2026. The link is emailed within 48 hours of you sending your UCAS application. | Cambridge applicants, except those applying for the Graduate Course in Medicine. |
| Oxford written work | 10 November 2026, where a course asks for it | Courses that require it. |
Dates come from the Cambridge and LNAT websites and from admissions-test guides. Some change by course, so confirm yours on your university’s own page.
If you are applying from outside the UK
The deadline is the same for everyone. Two things trip up international applicants more than the date itself: the reference and the time difference. If your school has not written UK references before, tell them now so they have time to learn the process. If you are applying without a school, you still need a referee, and UCAS advises asking them well before the deadline.
A four-day plan: Monday to Thursday
- Monday. Log in. Check the status of your reference. Ask your school what it still needs from you and when it will send the application. Check every test and extra form date for your courses, and email the university today if you missed a test booking.
- Tuesday. Finish your personal statement. Check your grades and predicted grades. Ask a teacher or counsellor to read the statement once.
- Wednesday. Check your five choices. Pay. Send your application to your school, or to UCAS if your school has already approved it.
- Thursday. Treat this as spare time. Aim to have the application with UCAS by midday UK time. Use the rest of the day for any test or extra form that is still open.
If you miss the deadline
For these courses, late applications are unusual. UCAS suggests asking the university whether it has places left before you do anything else. Oxford, Cambridge and most medicine courses are very competitive, and many do not look at late applications. Email the admissions office, and do not assume the answer either way.
If the answer is no, you still have choices. You can apply for other courses by 13 January 2027 and get equal consideration, or you can plan to apply next year. That is a decision worth talking through with your school or counsellor.
FAQ
What time does the UCAS October deadline close?
It closes at 6pm UK time on Thursday 15 October 2026. In India that is 10:30pm, and in Dubai it is 9pm.
Which courses have the 15 October deadline?
All courses at Oxford and Cambridge, and most medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine or science courses. Check the course page on UCAS, because a few courses in those subjects have the January deadline.
Can I still apply to Oxford or Cambridge after 15 October?
It is unusual for these universities to consider late applications, so do not count on it. Email the admissions office and ask before you do anything else.
Can I apply to both Oxford and Cambridge?
No. UCAS lets you apply to one of the two in a single application cycle. Check UCAS’s current rules before you build your list of five choices.
I did not book my admissions test. What should I do?
Booking has closed for the October tests: UCAT on 16 September, LNAT on 15 September, and ESAT, TMUA and TARA on 28 September. Email the university’s admissions office today, explain what happened and ask what is possible. Do not assume the answer either way.
What is the deadline if I am not applying to those courses?
For most other undergraduate courses the equal consideration deadline is 6pm UK time on 13 January 2027. Later applications are still sent on, but universities do not have to consider them equally.
